Health Guarantee

Health Guaranteeing a live animal is a very tricky thing. In a perfect world, a breeder would be able to do the appropriate health testing and be able guarantee that their puppies will never have any defects or illnesses. Unfortunately, there are many factors outside the breeder’s control, once the puppy goes to their new home, that will directly affect a dog’s life and health. This is why you see other breeder guarantees that are multiple page documents. If you thoroughly read these health guarantees you will quickly find that the guarantee does not really guarantee much, and are void for just about any reason (Not feeding a specific food or supplement, not going to a vet often enough, spay or neutering too early/late, not vaccinating on the exact dates, being over/under weight, the list goes on and on). We have also seen a lot of 24 month guarantees on hips and elbows, that require OFA certified hip and elbow evaluations to confirm hip/elbow issue. Well not only is that a costly process, its also only able to be done after 24 months, which would put you outside of the guarantee. 

So, what is R&J Labradors health guarantee? At R&J Labradors we believe being Open, Honest, and Transparent is the only way to breed dogs and we will not have a deceptive “Guarantees” just to sell a puppy; which is why we have a simple guarantee. We guarantee our puppies against illnesses for 30-day from their go home date. If your puppy becomes ill and the illness has been confirmed by a veterinarian, you will have the option to keep the dog and we will pay vet bills up to the purchase price, or you may return the dog for a full refund or exchange for a different puppy. Puppies must be seen by a veterinarian within 72 hours of being picked up to validate our guarantee and we do not cover vet bills for non-illnesses like exhaustion, upset stomachs, etc..  

With only a 30 day guarantee you may be asking what do we do to ensure you’re getting the best puppy out there? In short, the same things other respectable ethical breeder do; we stay up to date with current and new health risks and complete the latest health testing available. We also only purchase the best breeding stock from reputable breeders that share our same values and follow the same health testing standards. All our breeding dogs are given Full Panel DNA Testing to ensure they are clear on all diseases known to affect Labradors.   We also get our dog’s (24mo and older) hips and elbows Certified through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). You can verify these results on the bottom of our Meet our dog page. Once our puppies are born, they are meticulously cared for, monitored, and weighed daily to ensure they are healthy and thriving. Prior to going home, they are microchipped, and vaccinate/dewormed up to the date they go home.
